I hope this will be helpful as an example.

When GAS creeps up on you

In my experience, the most dangerous time is "when you are under stress.

But that's too vague, so I'll be more specific.I've been so busy that I haven't had time to work on it.It is a "time of stress".

You want to make something better than what you have now, but you don't have enough time. During breaks from work, you look on the Internet and see attractive new products and used equipment that you have been wanting to buy at a reasonable price. And you are hooked on the thought, "I feel like this equipment will help me move forward!" I fall beautifully into the "I'm going to use this equipment to help me move forward now! I'm sure some of you may remember this.

And as mentioned above, it is a vicious cycle that leads us further away from production.

How to deal with GAS

Naturally, the most fundamental solution to keep GAS away is to do the opposite.

In other words, "increase production time.

By using existing equipment with different ideas, we discover a new aspect of it. And then, when you realize that there is still so much more you can do, your interest in new products has waned before you know it. (Not every time, but...)

However, it is impossible to increase production time! There will be situations where

The next best thing is as follows

Read the manuals for your equipment carefully.

Even with equipment that you have used for a long time, there are probably not many people who know everything about it and are familiar with all of its functions. When you become aware of new functions, you can face your equipment with a renewed spirit. In fact, some of the top artists in the world of electronic music, such as Square Pusher and Floating Pointz, have commented that they like to know and use their equipment to the fullest, and that this is how they create interesting music.

Listen to masterpieces of your genre of production

When we consider that masterpieces are those that have been heard throughout the ages, it is natural to assume that most of these masterpieces were made with equipment from generations before the one we have today. Many of them are not as multifunctional or sophisticated as today's equipment, but it is eye-opening to realize how wonderful things can be made with such equipment. It also makes us reflect.

Read interviews and autobiographies of your favorite artists.

Personally, I recommend this most highly.

There are a few exceptions (especially in the electronic music community), but at least none of the artists I admired were able to create good music because they owned a large amount of equipment. Their interviews are the best way to get a feel of what it's like to be floating around in GAS.

In my experience, it is hard to keep the "don't do ~" restrictions, such as not looking at equipment-related websites, so I spend time looking at them.Replace it with time to gather different information.I believe that this is an effective way to do this. In fact, these are beneficial because the more time you spend on them, the more seeds of new ideas you will get.

I wrote the above as I told myself.

We hope this will be helpful to you in your musical life.

I amThe Midlife SynthesistI learned about GAS through the channel of Mr. ↓.

[14
17
post-173","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ideas","tag-17
["GET
